What is the Fairness Award?
Because the best player isn't always the one who scores the most.
Why Fair Play Matters
Pickup football has a reputation problem. The guy who slide-tackles in a friendly 5v5. The player who screams at teammates for missing a pass. The one who argues every call. We've all played with them — and it ruins the experience for everyone.
The Fairness Award exists to reward the opposite: players who make the game better for everyone around them.
How It's Calculated
After every game, players anonymously rate each other on three dimensions:
Sportsmanship
Fair play, positive attitude, respecting opponents
Reliability
Showing up on time, every time. No ghost-outs.
Community Spirit
Welcoming new players, organizing, being helpful
These ratings are combined into a Fairness Score. The player with the highest score each month wins the Fairness Award. Minimum 5 games and 3 peer ratings required.
The Impact
Since introducing the Fairness Award, average sportsmanship ratings across BallR have increased by 23%. Players with high fairness scores are more likely to be invited to crew games, get better peer reviews, and enjoy the game more. It turns out: when you reward good behavior, you get more of it.
